Learning Party: Afrofuturism

You are invited to our Afrofuturism learning party! Join us Friday, May 19 from 4:00 – 6:00 pm to create, imagine, and meet guest Afrofuturist experts. We are excited to have our friend Damola Idowu of ToyzSteam to share his awesome platform and games. You can also make art with local artist Born Shamir, who also painted the mural of Octavia E. Butler at Garfield Farm. This event is free and part of the Remake Learning Days.
When you close your eyes and think of the future, what do you see? At Assemble, we are collectively imagining a future where, “There Are Black People In The Future,” as Alisha Wormsley’s art says.
In the past, media and movies portrayed the future as a place with a lot of white people – and not many other folks represented. We know that is not real or welcoming. Let’s celebrate and imagine a future that learns from the past while centering folks from the African Diaspora.
