First Fridays: Unblurred with Fae Alaz

October 7, 2022 @ 6:00 pm - 10:00 pm

Join us on the first Friday of each month from 6-10pm for Unblurred, a monthly gallery exhibition at Assemble. Each month, a different local artist will showcase their work in our 4824 Penn Ave Gallery.

On October 7, join us in Assemble’s gallery for the opening of Fae Alaz’s show.

Fae Alaz (They/She) is an interdisciplinary artist and arts educator based in Pittsburgh, PA and recent MFA graduate of the University of Pennsylvania’s Weitzman School of Design. Holding degrees in information and communication technology as well as studio art, their work explores the intersections of data science and social power structures, examining the ways in which algorithmic biases reinforce the ways in which marginalized people are oppressed by (predominantly white, male) institutions of power. Fae’s work as an artist draws from her own experiences as a disabled worker, teacher and community member.
With mediums of their work ranging from portrait photography and animation to mixed reality performance pieces, they attempt to present and challenge narratives surrounding identity, agency, power, and mourning all through the lens of a queer, Black subjectivity. Their works have been featured at the William Way LGBT Center, Crane Arts, and Robert C May galleries and they currently work as a museum educator for K-12 learning
