Weekday Workers:

After School Volunteer: Help facilitate activities for our After School, which takes place from 4-6pm Monday through Thursday. Monday nights are for Girls’ ONLY! Help kids to develop their problem solving skills and creativity through making and STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) education. Assist them to make their ideas into reality with hands-on experiences in programming, robotics, e-textiles, 3d printing, laser cutting, design and more!  Must have clearances to work with kids in PA.

Assistant to the Director: Assist the Director and get hands on experience with communication, volunteer management, data management,  and community outreach. Be an active part in what makes Assemble work. Time is flexible. This would be 10-15 hours a week.  Great opportunity for someone who wants to work in a start-up, nonprofit, or arts space.

Friday Night Fun Times:

Unblurred Volunteer: Assemble is also a gallery space, and hosts an opening on the First Friday of every month from 6-10 pm.  We always need volunteers to help with setup (beginning at 5:30), cleanup (ending at 10:30), serving snacks/drinks (must be 21+), and greeting guests in between! This is a great choice for volunteers who want to help out with an event that’s not just for the kids.  Clearances are not required but encouraged.

Unblurred Coordinator: The Unblurred Program Coordinator will be responsible for recruiting artists, makers, and technologists to showcase their work at Assemble during Unblurred, liaising between that person or group and Assemble, and assisting with development and marketing for Unblurred. S/he will report directly to the Director of Assemble and work with the Program Coordinators, and must be available 10-12 hours per week, including on First Fridays and other times outside of regular business hours. The candidate must be self-directed, flexible, and passionate about Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (STEAM) education and the Maker Movement.

Youth Maker Night Volunteer: Help facilitate activities for our Youth Maker Night, which takes place from 5-7pm on the second Friday of each month.  Each event has multiple activities around a theme, like food or robots. Must have clearances to work with kids in PA.

Weekend Warriors:

Saturday Crafternoons:  Saturday Crafternoons is a weekend program for 5 to 10 year olds to learn about making and the design process. Each week we feature a new material and an expert to serve as a real live precedent. A commitment of approximately 5 hours per week. Must have clearances to work with kids in PA.

Birthday Party Assistants: Assist with occasional birthday parties and provide hands-on activities. The time commitment is from 12pm – 4pm on some Sunday afternoons. Must have clearances to work with kids in PA.

Various Times:

Make and Take Volunteers: Assemble facilitates fun, hands-on activities for youth and families at various community events.  These are a great way to get started volunteering with us, as they only require a few hours and times vary to suit any schedule. Please note that the locations of these events vary.

Assemble Street Team: We need help getting the word out about our awesome programs to more families in the local community.  We are seeking people to hand out flyers and/or post events online.  And anyone can help by “Liking” us on Facebook (, following us on Twitter (@assemblepgh), and sharing/retweeting our announcements.  Clearances are not required.
