Youth Maker Night: Street Art (Ages 10-14)
March 8 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm
“Don’t Do Bad Stuff” with Max Gonzales and Jerome Charles
March 8 from 5-7pm // Register here!
Jerome and Max will give a brief presentation on their involvement in graffiti/street art and how it has propelled them to their current positions as artists, muralists, curators, and educators. This presentation encourages participation from the students to state their experience and knowledge of graffiti, street art, and hip hop.
Once the lecture is over, Max and Jerome will hand out graffiti lettering worksheets and will workshop with the students to create their own name, or “artist name” in graffiti letters. While this is going on, Jerome and Max will talk to each student about their interest in graffiti, street art, hip hop and other arts and will encourage those students to explore those interests. They will also offer advice and input on their specific interests and potential outlets for those interests.
At the end of the workshop, students will be asked to draw the names they practiced on a large canvas with graffiti markers. With the concept of embracing personal identities, students are encouraged to proudly show their name/identity and to find ways to make the most of it.
No prior experience necessary.
