Join us on Friday, September 4th from 6pm-10pm for a showing of kites! Artist and maker Katy DeMent will be displaying the kites she and others made throughout the year in recognition of
Dashian. She has worked with Nepalese refugees at Brashear High School, the Larimer Community Garden, and Nepalese refugees at the Mt. Oliver Community Garden to create the kites on display.
Dashian is the kite fly’n – kite – fight’n celebration related to harvest time in Nepal, usually in September. May is International Kite Month – a time to plant gardens. Summer is the time to grow and then harvest these crops, and celebrate community.
Dashian will hopefully bring a little bit of Nepal here in the steep hillsides of Pittsburgh.
