On March 6, 2015 from 6pm-10pm, Kristen Lauth Shaeffer is presenting 349!
349 is a collaborative animation and installation that explores how people are imperceptibly connected. A dance performance was videotaped and converted into a series of still frames. 349 different people will each redraw one of these frames and the resulting drawings will be scanned and sequenced to create a short animated film. The images will also be displayed in a way that invokes the experience of a walk-through flipbook, where participants will be able to see their own image in the context of the animation and installation in its entirety.
Kristen Lauth Shaeffer lives and creates in Pittsburgh, where she is an Assistant Professor of Film and Digital Technology at Chatham University. Her short films have screened at Athens International Film + Video Festival, NewFilmmakers Los Angeles and New York, Big Muddy Film Festival, and other national and international festivals. She has received grants from The Heinz Endowments, The Pittsburgh Foundation, and Pittsburgh 250 Community Connections for her work as co-creator and executive producer of Greetings from Pittsburgh: Neighborhood Narratives.
