Stacked; Patterns and Piles explores the repetition seen in Architecture. Through drawing, painting and photography, I explore balance, proportion, and geometric patterning as they create structural forms and the visual patterning of architecture, the moment where contrasting lines merge. Visitors are encouraged to participate through creating patterns inspired by design they encounter, to add to an interactive mural as well as to challenge their ability to design a balanced structure. As children we begin creating structure using simple building blocks, these units challenge us to consider form and function- making design choices while maintaining structural integrity. Kara Skyling’s is influenced by pattern found in urban landscapes and architecture. Through the creation of abstract paintings, inspired by the arrangement of industrial material and the construction of architecture, her work explores the patterns and repetition of our built landscape. Influenced by the human interaction with variations of place, movement, and time; I create deconstructed compositions and images using line, form, and color with a focus on process, repetition and material.
