Chris Williams brings the current happenings in Turkey to Garfield. The focus of this work is to expose the American public to firsthand written accounts of the current protests in Turkey. The title of this work loosely translates to “Voiced/Unvoiced” in Turkish. It also refers to the change that some Turkish consonants make when followed by a vowel. The “softening” or “hardening” of the sound allows for easier pronunciation. Similarly, the lack of adequate American media coverage about the Turkish protests has “softened” or “hardened” the severity of these circumstances in American eyes. In addition, distorted perspectives are offered on these largely unvoiced issues, which allows for easier consumption. In particular, the consequences that affect the members of the Turkish community in Pittsburgh remain unheard.
