Our April showcase features the work of Leah Patgorski, a Pittsburgh-based artist who creates objects and installations with textiles. Her studio process can involve cutting, dyeing, scrubbing, pressing, stitching, and splicing various fabrics, all before re-constructing them into new arrangements. Leah’s current work walks back and forth between grid-adherence and improvisation, with an approach to color that incorporates both natural dye experiments and unaltered found hues.
About the artist:
Leah Patgorski was born in Virginia Beach, VA. After earning a BS in Architecture at the University of Virginia, she began her career in a landscape architecture firm. She went on to earn her MFA in Studio Art from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. In her art practice, Leah works almost exclusively with textiles, generating sculptures, architectural installations, and painting-like objects, as well as collaborations other artists. She has been commissioned to make a number of large-scale pieces for private residences and commercial spaces, and her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally.
