DIGITAL DIVIDE: Art and Communication in a Virtual World
Manifesto- ish is an online artist collective created by four artists who shared space, time and ideas at the University of the Arts from 2008 to 2010. It was founded in part as an effort towards continued collaboration despite distance. More importantly, it was forged in an effort to both utilize and critique the digital technologies at our disposal as both humans and makers while creating a platform for sharing ideas, connecting with others and collaborating with artists and nonartists alike.
Digital Divide is an exhibition comprised of a variety of works both reacting to and commenting on the new Digital Frontier. The four participating artists demonstrate a spectrum of responses to what is often referred to as “new media.” Digital constructs shift and shape our relationship to the “real” world in various ways. There is often a perceptible schism between those who are immersed in technology and those who shun it. Each point from celebration to denigration finds representation within this exhibition.
