Dashian is the kite fly’n – kite – fight’n celebration related to harvest time in Nepal, usually in September. May is International Kite Month – a time to plant gardens. Summer is the time to grow and then harvest these crops, and celebrate community.
Dashian will hopefully bring a little bit of Nepal here in the steep hillsides of Pittsburgh.
Katy DeMent, Assemble’s Unblurred artist for the month of September, will be displaying the kites she made throughout the year at this month’s show. She has worked with Nepalese refugees at Brashear High School, the Larimer Community Garden, and Nepalese refugees at the Mt. Oliver Community Garden to create the kites on display.
