Register here!

What you’ll make: Astronomy Journal
Where: Assemble, 5125 Penn Ave, Pittsburgh, 15224
Date and time: Wednesday, March 16, 2016 | 7:00 – 9:00PM
Cost: $40

In this astronomy themed class you will learn how to paint galaxies and nebula, and use a simple book binding technique to create an Astronomy Journal.

In honor of Earth Hour, special guest, physicist Evan Tucker, will share important insights about how we can see more of the beautiful stars in our night sky.

As you learn about the colors and shapes of celestial objects, you will be introduced to techniques to replicate them on the cover of your journal. You will learn the basics of book binding, using graph paper as your book pages. Then take home your journal to use for jotting down your star gazing observations.

We provide all journal making materials, various galactic inspired paints, and easy to follow instructions on how to make realistic looking celestial scenery.

Note:  Paints and adhesives may stain clothing.  Dress in something appropriate for crafting.

This event is for ages 21 and over. ID required.

This Pop Craft event is part of the City of Pittsburgh’s Office of Sustainability month of activities centered on astronomy and light pollution solutions, “Our Pittsburgh Constellation.” From March 4 – 26, visit Assemble for a space art gallery show, talks, workshops and demonstrations.
