MakerDate 2014

MakerDate 2014: Saturday, May 17.

The Kaufmann Center 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

Will you be there?

The Assemble team is gearing up for our third annual MakerDate this Saturday, May 17. MakerDate is the brainchild of our founder, Nina Marie Barbuto and is a celebration of artists and makers in our community. The event derived from Nina and takes the concept of a date-auction and re-dresses it with the purpose of pairing skilled creators with those who want to learn something new. “This is truly a one-of-a-kind opportunity for the community to come together to celebrate STEAM education and have the chance to learn a new skill or trade” said Barbuto. Adding, “Last years MakerDate drew a crowd of over 150 and featured 18 makers for the live, maker-auction. All makers came from varied backgrounds and skill-sets including technology, fine art and food science, to name a few.” This year’s MakerDate theme is MAKING in our community. We’re excited to announce our Pittsburgh creatives that are sure to make the auction lively and competitive. Some of their skillsets include: Jewelry making, architectural products, video/documentary production, screen-printing, puppetry, cooking and more. The list of this year’s Maker’s are as follows: 1. Anya Weitzman 2. Bek Winters/Sweet Peaches 3. Chris Mason 4. Dave English 5. Filip Argen 6. Grits Capone 7. Harvest and Gather 8. J.D. Whitewolf 9. Jeffrey Krsul 10. Louis J. Boston II 11. Magic Organs 12. Vanishing Paper Arts 13. Jakob Marsico 14. Matthew Buchholz 15. Nmdathan Bell 16. Pittsburgh Track Authority 17. Scott Andrew 18. Tara Sherry-Torres 19. Tracksploitation The action-packed evening will begin early with the VIP event at 6pm. Some of the perks of being a VIP are first dibs on silent auction bidding, swag bag giveaways, art demonstrations and the chance to meet the makers before the rest of the crowd. The night will kick off with hors d’oeuvres, drinks and music from DJ duo, Tracksploitation. The pair specializes in live mashes and mixes using “space-aged” equipment with old school flair. They were Voted #3 Best Hip-Hop act in Pittsburgh in 2012 and 2013 and were invited to play at an official SXSW party in Austin Texas. Silent auction items such as a bag from Moop,  artwork from Baron Batch,  to name a few, will also be available to bid on during Tracksploitation. The dynamic Dave Mansueto, performer, musician and entrepreneur, will be the emcee for the evening and will announce each maker during the live auction. Sounds like fun, huh? You can still buy tickets here: This event would not have been possible without our amazing sponsors and supporters.
