CLAY BIRDHOUSES WITH TOM HUGHES @ SATURDAY CRAFTERNOONS
On Saturday, December 20, 2014, Assemble’s Saturday Crafternoon program worked with local artist Tom Hughes to make clay birdhouses, feeders, and characters!
Tom brought a large block of clay and various tools to construct our clay creations. The kids learned the basics of making “pinchpots,” where a ball of clay can be turned into a small bowl or vessel.
Some of us manipulated our pinchpots into vessels that will house birdseed once the piece is hung from a tree. Others chose to create characters or figures, and each design was more imaginative than the last! Using clay for this project allowed for swift and easy changes throughout the entire process.
Thanks to Tom Hughes for bringing his incredible clay manipulation skills to Crafternoons!
